Overview
Pellings were appointed by L B Bexley to procure a new 2FE Primary School and Children's Centre within the site boundary of an existing school which was demolished following completion.
This award winning project was delivered via a 2 Stage Design and Build Contract. We were extensively involved with assessing the preferred bidders' proposals and entering into value engineering exercises to maximise value for money.
Within the main teaching block, classroom clusters are arranged either side of a central spine, which is planned as practical teaching areas.
These areas enable teaching flexibility and adaptability for project work across year groups away from main class bases.
The building section has been carefully developed to work with the central spine arrangement, introducing natural light deep into the centre of the plan. The section also permits a natural ventilation strategy to the classrooms as well as the central shared space.
This project has won "Best Educational Project" in the London Region Building Excellence Awards 2010 and is a finalist in the National Building Excellence Awards.
