With the advent of the Mayor's London Plan and the move to more sustainable communities, Pellings are involved in a number of higher density schemes, which include a mix of tenures, including shared ownership.
Typical of these is a scheme at Marlborough Grove SE1 in the London Borough of Southwark.
There was previously a derelict public house and some light industrial units on this brownfield site and it is surrounded by social housing estates, including a number of medium and high rise blocks and a primary school. Great care was needed to minimise disturbance to the residents of the surrounding blocks and safety for the school children around the site was a prime consideration.
The construction innovatively combined numerous products and materials around pre-cast concrete slabs spanning a traditional steel frame structure. The external facade was constructed from lightweight blockwork clad with an insulated render finish.
The project was competitively tendered, and then Value Engineered before works commenced.
